A Journey of Teaching Across Borders

I’m Dr.Selvaraj Balasubramani, a Professor of Surgery with decades of experience in leading medical colleges in India and Malaysia. My journey as a teacher has evolved over the years—from physical classrooms and operating theatres to YouTube videos and Spotify podcasts, reaching medical students not just in my own college but across the globe.

Thanks to technology, distance is no longer a barrier. Today, my lessons reach aspiring doctors in every corner of the world—right from their hostel rooms, hospital corridors, or study desks.

Returning Home with a Mission

As I prepare to retire in October 2025 and return to India, a nation with over 800+ medical colleges and countless young, passionate minds, I carry with me a new mission:

To continue teaching. To continue sharing. To continue serving students, wherever they are.

Digital Education for Medical Students – The New Chapter

They say, “When the student is ready, the teacher appears.”

I believe that this teacher is ready, whenever and wherever you are.

At Surgical Educator, you’ll find:

·      In-depth blog posts on clinical problems, surgical principles, and career advice.

·      Engaging YouTube tutorials explaining complex surgical topics with clarity.

·      Spotify audio podcasts to accompany your clinical rotations and commute.

Launching Soon: The Problem-Oriented Case-Based Online Surgery Course

Live interactive webinars and Q&A sessions for all the modules in the online course with students worldwide through YouTube Live/Zoom platforms.

I’m thrilled to announce my upcoming flagship offering—a comprehensive online surgery course designed with Indian and international MBBS students in mind.

What makes this course unique?

·      Real clinical scenarios to help you think like a surgeon.

·      Problem-based modules focused on abdominal pain, hernias, breast lumps, vascular problems, and more.

·      Emphasis on clinical reasoning, not just theoretical knowledge.

·      OSCE prep, MCQs, and exam-focused revision tools like flashcards with spaced repetition

·      Flexible, self-paced learning accessible on any device.

·      This is not just another online course. It is your virtual surgical ward, where every case teaches you something unforgettable.

·      The highlight of this unique course would be AI agents. I am going to incorporate AI-powered agents that can significantly enhance learning by providing an interactive and adaptive educational experience for all aspirant surgeons.

Why I Do What I Do

·      Because every student deserves a teacher who shows up consistently, compassionately, and completely.

·      Because I believe that great surgeons are shaped not just by textbooks but by mentors. So, I am going to be your mentor and not just a teacher.

·      And because this is my legacy—to teach, inspire, and serve.
